Overview of ship models to be sold
Material: various woods in the form of well-supported strips of pear, oak, linden, pine, walnut, mahogany, abachi and boxwood. For invisible areas also plywood is suitable.
As metals mainly brass and copper in thin plates (0,1mm), rods and tubes are used. The sails are made of thin, white cotton batiste. Jute whipping yarn from 0.2mm is used for the standing and running goods. Glass was not present in the antique shipbuilding.
Tools and machines: Instruments for measuring, drawing, sawing, cutting, drilling, gripping, holding, painting, magnified viewing, and soldering. As machines, various drills, saws, small lathe and milling cutters are necessary.
A basic technique for woodworking is bending in the steam! Also carving, etching and soldering are basic works that are complemented by resin casting.
For the construction of steamboats (wheels or screws) we recommend the setting of nickel silver sheet (0.1 – 0.25mm).
The next step in model making will surely be 3-D printing.
