Story:
The astrolabe was a 380 -ton Corvette, which was launched in 1811 under the name „La Coquille“.
She circled the globe three times, each lasting three years.
In 1822, the Coquille embarked on its first world tour under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Duperrey.
In 1826 she was renamed „Astrolabe“.
On the second research trip between 1826 and 1829, the astrolabe braved heavy storms and ran aground six times.
On December 7, 1837, after long preparations, the astrolabe sailed to set off on their last trip around the world in conjunction with the identical Corvette „Zelee“.
On February 25, 1840, the ship sailed for Auckland Islands, where measurements of the Earth’s magnetic field were made.
The expedition returned to Toulon, where she arrived on 6 November 1840.
During the last 10 years the astrolabe has been navigating different waters in Europe.
